Carlo’s Bakery Express: 7 facts about Toronto’s new cake ATMs
Last week, three cake ATMs mysteriously popped up in the downtown core. Details were hard to come by, but I’ve uncovered exclusive details about the new dessert depots.
Here’s the scoop:
1. What are they EXACTLY
Carlo’s Bakery Express are cake-dispensing machines found throughout Toronto’s downtown core.
The project is a collab with fourth-generation baker and host of TLC hit show Cake Boss, Buddy Valastro, and his renowned family business Carlo’s Bakery, with a local automated retail company.
At press time, the cakes are exclusively available in Canada at these Toronto ATMs.
2. Where to find them EXACTLY
So far, there are three outposts in the 6ix. All can be found on Oxford Properties throughout the PATH, either in or adjacent to food courts:
i) Near the food court in Royal Bank Plaza - 200 Bay St.
ii) In the food court at RBC Waterpark Place – 88 Queens Quay W.
iii) Next to the food court at Richmond Adelaide Centre – 120 Adelaide St. W.
3. Why Toronto?
The company that created the vending machines are Toronto-based Express Retail Group Inc., who specialize in automated retail experiences.
“Carlo’s Bakery was the perfect choice,” said a spokesperson for the company, “as we are huge fans of the product and company.”
Thanks to their innovative temperature-controlled kiosks, you can now enjoy freshly made slices and full cakes instantly at the touch of a button.
4. What’s inside
Every machine has room for eight full-size cakes and 160 slices. Items are restocked daily on weekdays.
Currently, you’ll find Valastro’s best-loved flavours available: Rainbow, Red Velvet, Chocolate Fudge and Carrot.
Slices are $8.99 + tax, with full cakes costing $39.99-$44.99 + tax. Items are dispensed in clear plastic containers and are best enjoyed at room temperature.
5. New flavours on the way
Flavours are already being combined to add a “surprise element” for machine-goers.
Chocolate Rainbow Fudge just joined the lineup, and two new flavours will be added later this week.
6. Not going anywhere soon
Often concepts like this are more of a pop-up concept, but I’ve been told the self-serve machines will be there “long term.”
7. More to come
I can confirm new Toronto locations will be added in the first quarter of 2020.
Stay tuned.
