1554 Queen St W in Parkdale has been home to many ventures over the years including: Mitzi’s Sister, Tennessee Tavern, Gianna’s Patties & Pies, and most recently, Peaches Sports Bar. Arriving soon: Mantra Toronto.
Today King and Portland’s hotel lobby bar themed restaurant Vela* (90 Portland St.) announced doors are temporarily closed until further notice due to a fire on the premises. No injuries have been reported. *Michelin Recommended
Speaking of closures, Lost in Tokyo (511 Queen St. W.) aused a frenzy when it debuted this past fall. If you haven’t experienced “the first parfait exclusive shop in Toronto” yet, you’ll have to wait a while. After being open just a few months, it closed up shop as of December 23, with doors slated to reopen this summer.
Buh-bye burgers, hello butter chicken pizza. Elm Street’s “burgers without borders” Flavurger (13 Elm St.) arrived in February but has already been replaced by Brampton’s B-Town Pizza. On the menu: Speciality pizzas topped with everything from butter chicken, chicken tikka, tandoori paneer, BBQ chicken, and even fries, Other items to explore include Masala Wings, Samosa Poutine, and lava cakes for dessert.
BREAKING NEWS: Fine dining Indian destination Barkat (712 Queen St. W.) has closed. The restaurant made a splash when it arrived on Queen West in Summer 2023 with a tasting menu boasting elements of molecular gastronomy and other modern touches, served in a sleek, stylish setting. The restaurant has been marked permanently closed on Google. the Instagram page removed, and the phone number is currently out of service.
