THIS JUST IN:
Omakase restaurants are as ubiquitous as steak houses, Sambas and soft wavy perms right now. Hot Tip: Ibushi is touching down at a plaza in Markham soon. Expect a seasonal sushi omakase experience "rooted in tradition, redefined by diversity" by chef Hiroki Takai. To nab a spot at the 16-seat counter, you’ll have to act fast: Soft opening at Commerce Gate (505 Hwy 7, Unit 76) begins January 7. Bonus: Enjoy $50 off your experience from January 7 through to February 15.
Sinaloa Factory, aka your Mexican sushi headquarters, just launched El Mitote at College and Dufferin (1136 College, St.), with what they’re calling the “best Mexican pizzas in Toronto.” Selections including Birria, Carnitas, Rock Shrimp, and Nachos with Chicken will no doubt draw a crowd.
Calling all dessert lovers: Nonna Lia, home of premium tiramisù and authentic Italian sweets just debuted in Oakwood Village (337 Oakwood Ave.) in The Oakwood Hardware Food & Drink’s former stomping grounds.
Introducing Greektown’s newest addition: Cake Cabaret (627 Danforth Ave.. 2nd Floor). Sister spot to The Pink Studio (2053 Danforth Ave.) kicked off December 27 in the previous digs of restaurant and event space The Forth at Pape and Danforth. On the agenda for the performance and event venue: A myriad of shows including dance, revues, burlesque, drag , comedy, and more, accompanied by cakes n’ cocktails.
Steak houses really are taking over the city rn, however you’ll have to wait a little longer for a few, both old and new. Two that were set to open last month have been delayed: Harbour 60 (60 Harbour St.) that was initially slated to launch this past summer, then in the fall, now hopes to open doors in February. And Bisteccheria Sammarco (4 Front St. E.), new sibling to Michelin’s Giulietta and Osteria Giulia was set to launch before Christmas. Stay tuned for opening details.
