Multi-hyphenate star Jess Salgueiro is a powerhouse.

Named one of TIFF Rising Stars last year, the Los Angeles/Toronto-based actor, singer, playwright and performance artist is back for TIFF 2019, for the premiere of Volcano, directed by Karen Moore, part of this year’s Short Cuts Programme 5.

Starring in the short flick is just one of the many projects quickly filling up her resume. Recent feature film credits include: I’ll Take Your Dead (Black Fawn Films), Mary Goes Round (Dir. Molly McGlynn/TIFF ‘17), Instar Emergence (Dir. Alan Ritchson), Larry (Dir. Jacob Chase), and Mouthpiece (Dir. Patricia Rozema), which premiered at TIFF 2018.

Currently filming two Netflix series – the highly anticipated Tiny Pretty Things, and a project so tightly under wraps even the title is classified - you’ll find her in recurring roles on top television shows Workin' Moms (CBC/Netflix), Mary Kills People (Hulu), Letterkenny (Crave/Hulu), The Strain (FX), Channel Zero (SyFy), and Orphan Black (BBC America). 

As if that weren’t keeping her busy enough, she can be seen in major roles this fall in two Amazon Original Series -The Boys and The Expanse.

In her “spare” time, she runs an online feminist publication Bitches Be Witches, whips up meals with friends at home, and dines out at her favourite eateries right here in the 6ix.

Gotta say it’s supper. I live in a house with my best friends and we have “family dinner” together almost every night.  We laugh our asses off while making dinner, consuming dinner and cleaning up after dinner. It’s a dream come true.

Nunu Ethiopian - AMAZING Ethiopian restaurant.
Rasa - I used to work there! They’re the best and the food is divine.

Farmer’s Market.  I’m at the Sorauren Farmers’ Market almost every week.

Colourful.  Lots of plants. Also - it’s the nucleus of the house. Everyone is always finding themselves drawn to it.

Fast and dirty. 

Ideal food day: from the time you wake up until bed, what are you having?

Breakfast - Eggs poached with some delicious freshly baked toast and fresh tomato and basil from our garden.
Lunch - Spicy Salmon roll, Wakame Salad.
Dinner - Indian food - Naan, Matar Paneer, Saag Paneer, Veggie Korma.
Dessert - Chocosol’s “5 Chili Bullet” Dark Chocolate.
