Open/Closed: Toronto Restaurant News June 20-26, 2019

It’s an overwhelmingly Asian list this week - six of the ten arrivals include bubble tea, takoyaki, Japanese curry, and oodles of noodles.

Here’s the very latest:

OPEN

If you prefer your bubble tea to sport evocative themes – “Morning Dawn,” “Northern Lights,” “Snow Strawberry Lulu,” - The Alley chain is for you. Their latest outpost just landed in Mississauga (325 Central Parkway W.). Enjoy ten per cent off any drinks during soft opening until the 28th.

Yonge & St. Clair just got its own Bombay Roti (1404 Yonge St.).

At Chatime Atealier (First Canadian Place - 100 King St. W., Concourse Level), expect violet hues (via butterfly pea tea), and see-through tapioca (crystal boba), and other insta-ready concoctions.

Speaking of insta, if you live in Oakville, Cove Bar & Restaurant (49 Bronte Rd.) with its white interior and string-lit patio covered in lush plants, might be where you live now. Choose from an array of dishes including Smoked BBQ Ribs ($24). Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($19), Linguine Vongole ($17), and Lobster Roll ($19).

Golden Bubbles celebrates their Richmond Hill (11000 Yonge St., Unit D2) grand opening Saturday and Sunday. Their new signature takoyaki waffle is free on Saturday from 12pm-2pm.

Toronto’s first Japanese curry house expands again. The fifth Gyugyuya has arrived in the Annex (402 Bloor St. W.) with its signature curries in tow including: Gyu Cheese, Ton Katsu, Karage, and Omelette.

Hungry? Port Credit’s newest café has got you covered. Lux Café (241 Lakeshore Rd. E.) offers paninis, bagels, salads, desserts, ice cream and milkshakes in addition to hot and cold beverages.

PSA: Mugi (793 Bathurst St.) specializes in plant-based Thai food from scratch. ‘Nuff said.

The Pizza Garden at North of Brooklyn (511 Rogers Rd.) is finally here, so go get yourself some of the city’s best ‘za alongside vino and brews.

Yonge and Davisville’s Tamasha Social (1835 Yonge St.) calls itself “Toronto's newest hangout spot for party poppers.”

Chinese food is mighty plentiful in North York, but Yan Yu Chinese Dining (237 Consumers Road, Unit F) is one of the latest restaurants to touch down.

CLOSED

Awai (2277 Bloor St. W.) winds down for good at the Bloor West Village location on Sunday, but stay tuned – their upscale restaurant is set to launch next month downtown.

Saturday’s the last day for Brooklynn (1186 Queen St. W.), a Queen and Dufferin bar staple for the last decade.
