Open/Closed: Toronto Restaurant News March 7-13, 2019

There’s nothing more satisfying than having an array of cuisines to choose from. So this week’s 13 arrivals offering everything from pierogies to pork knuckle, cookies to katsu, is here for your every craving.

The only difficulty - where to begin?

Here’s the very latest:

OPEN

G-Y-R-O-S! G-Y-R-O-S! Danforth staple Alexandros (484 Danforth Ave.) launched its third location on Monday, this time right downtown (377 Church St.).

Following Noce and Noce 2.0 comes Bar Noce (875 Queen St. W.). Expect stuzzichini – shareable finger foods – alongside crafted cocktails.

Bodega Henriette is moving into the former home of Pacific Junction Hotel (234 King St. E.). Their second spot will be open March 13-19 from 9am-5pm, with dinner service to begin March 20.   

The menu at The Dog & Tiger Public House (537 College St.) is worth a look: White Trash Cobb Salad ($18), Mussels 'Vindaloo' ($16), Crispy Tyrolean Bacon Mac & Cheese ($14), and house specialty 40oz Bone-in Pork Knuckle ($36), for starters.

The Good Son debuted a second eatery yesterday at Shops At Don Mills (11 Karl Fraser Rd.). 

Taking over Thoroughbred’s former spot, Grand Cru Deli (304 Richmond St. W.) offers a rare mashup: A deli walks into a wine bar...

Heavenly Perogy’s homemade dumplings and other delicious Ukrainian food is available every Thursday from 11am-3pm at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral (400 Bathurst St.). You can dine in the sunlit banquet hall or take it to go. New this week: Vegetarian Cabbage Rolls, and Fresh Cut Fruit with an onsite chocolate fountain. 

Katsu lovers, rejoice! Katsuya has a new location in Scarborough (4447 Sheppard Ave. E.). Enjoy items including “Canada’s first” Katsu Burger with “teriyaki sauce made with fruit and vegetables and tartar sauce,” and, get ready for it - Carbonara Katsu.

Kupfert & Kim (100 Bloor St. W.) has moved on up to swish Yorkville. The “wheatless and meatless” chain’s latest spot opened yesterday, boasting a live plant wall and new housemade seed-oat toast entrees.

The Fashion District’s newest occupant: My Meatball Place (617 King St. W.), brought to you by the folks behind behind My Roti Place.

Mississauga has a new Middle Eastern destination. From Mutabbal ($6) to Sfeehah ($2) Mangoss (152 Lakeshore Rd. E.) has got your cravings covered. Mains ($15-$20) change daily: Mansaf ($20) is available on Mondays, while Sayyadiah ($20) with fish & shrimp is offered on Sundays.

The Night Baker (825 College St.) specializes in freshly baked soft, chewy cookies. You can also get them delivered. That’s what big sweaters are for, right?

The latest concept from Tsujiri - Tsujiri Patisserie (596 Yonge St.) offering signature Japanese matcha desserts - softly opens today. 

CLOSED 

Curry Twist (3034 Dundas St. W.) is temporarily closed for renovations.

Doors opened back in May for Good Things Cafe + Juice Bar (235 Broadview Ave.), but they shut down late last week. Stay tuned – the café is getting new owners, a small facelift, and menu revamp, set to open again at the end of March.

Pacific Junction Hotel (234 King St. E.) may have closed for good, but you can visit their sister bar Betty's (240 King St. E.), right next door.

EVENTS 

Trivia tonight at the Granite Brewery is for a great cause.

Photo exhibit REGALIA, Native Pride is on at the CN Tower until March 31st. An Indigenous themed menu by First Nation Chef David Wolfman and 360’s Executive Chef John Morris is also available during this time

Starting today, you can get pre-opening week sneak peek tix for the city’s newest arcade bar, Zed*80 (185 Danforth Ave.).

Toronto’s 185th Anniversary Festival takes place this weekend.
