Open/Closed: Toronto Restaurant News February 14-20, 2019

It’s a wonder anything opened at all this week after Snowmeggedon 2.

Many slated openings were delayed of course, so stay tuned – there’s more to come this month.

Here’s the very latest:

OPEN

Authentic Afghan restaurant Caravan Kabob House in Brampton debuts a second location tomorrow night, this time in Mississauga (5955 Latimer Dr.). Enjoy 15 per cent off during the opening special (dine-in only).

KASPACE (185 Carlaw Ave.) in Leslieville - the stunning Kevin Allwood showroom and ethical concept shop - just got it’s own striking café a few blocks away. KASPACE Café (1183 Queen St. E.) a clean modern space, sleek furniture, and vegetarian, vegan, and organic treats including vegan whoopie pies. Oomph.

Toronto’s first zero-waste store is now open. Shop groceries, fresh produce, dry goods, and home care products at Unboxed Market (1263 Dundas St. W.). Bonus: There’s a café and bakery on-site.

CLOSED

Bacon-centric Rashers (948 Queen St. E.) has shuttered, with signs for its replacement - My Roti Place - already up.

Cakes Cove (1074 St Clair Ave. W.) has closed due to a flood in the building. They’re asking for the public’s help to find a new home via Indiegogo.

After three years in the biz, Entice Restaurant & Lounge (1036 Queen St. W.) ended service over the weekend.

Put down your paddles. Games at Smash Ping Pong Lounge (672 Queen St. E.) have come to an end. 

NEWS 

Though doors don’t open until spring for Flipside Donuts Cafe + Bar (12 Case Goods), the Distillery District shop is giving their limited edition Black Velvet Mini Donuts - a mashup of black forest cake and red velvet - away for free today. You can also buy a bag by giving a cash donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. 

no name beer launches in Ontario this weekend for a reduced price – six for $6.60 (incl. deposit) February 15-17 or while supplies last - at select LCBO stores and online at lcbo.com. The brew will regularly retail for $10.45 for a six-pack.
