Chick-fil-A announces second Toronto location
Another Toronto location of Chick-fil-A is on the way.
Just two months after the debut of the first outpost at Yonge and Bloor, the controversial restaurant group announced earlier this week they’re setting up shop sometime next year at Yorkdale.
Despite reports the Atlanta-based company will no longer be donating to three anti same-sex marriage groups starting in the new year, such acts aren’t likely to be forgotten or forgiven by those who staunchly oppose the company’s donations to anti-gay causes and CEO Dan Cathy’s stance on gay marriage.
A U.K. branch closed after six months due to protests, yet despite similar backlash in Toronto (#BoycottChickFilA is still trending), the downtown location of one of the biggest American fast food chains - and the largest specializing in chicken sandwiches - continues to draw endless crowds and lineups. In fact, since opening the first franchisee-owned Canadian location, Chick-fil-A claims to have already served “tens of thousands of Torontonians.” And it’s likely to keep gaining in popularity.
This is far from the last we’ll see of the famed chicken eatery that’s closed on Sundays. A statement on the company’s Canadian website reads: “Chick-fil-A is focused on expansion in Ontario, with plans to open 15 restaurants in the next five years.”
Stay tuned.
