Open/Closed: week of July 5-11, 2018

If you’ve never been to a “hip-hop” eatery or had okroshka or dacha before, you’re in luck - this week’s intriguing openings were made for you.

Here’s the very latest:

OPEN

From Goulasz and Čevapi to Lobio (Georgian bean salad with feta, cilantro, walnut, onion & pomegranate) and Pljeskavica [Lika Balkan burger, on a bun w/ kajmak (cream cheese) onion, cucumber, tomato], Drom Taberna (458 Queen St. W.) has your Eastern European cravings covered.

Fargo’s Snack Bar (772 College St.) calls itself “Toronto's 1st Hip-Hop eatery.” What does that mean exactly? Fried Jerk Chicken ($8.50), Indian Style Diced Roti Mix (Veg $8.50, Chicken $9.50), and six types of patties ($6.50-$8.50), to start.

Toronto's first charcoal ice cream shop, iHalo Krunch, got new digs (831 Queen St. W.).

If pizza and shopping are your two favourite things, consider your prayers answered - Pi Co. opened Tuesday at Shops at Don Mills (1070 Don Mills Rd.).

Sapori’s (1588 Dundas St. W.) menu selections feature an array of dishes - charcuterie boards, Grilled Pork Belly & Cheesy Grits; and Gnudi with ramp leaves, cherry tomatoes & mustard greens - alongside biodynamic wines, local craft brews, and “unique cocktails.”

CLOSED

C'est fin for Avenue Bistro (1568 Bayview Ave.).

Mascot Brewery’s closure at 31 Mercer St. isn’t forever - a new location will follow. Stay tuned.

Mazz Sushi (806 Queen St. E.) says sayonara in Leslieville, but their location at Bloor and Dovercourt (993 Bloor St. W.) remains open.

Giro d’Italia - Italian Restaurant Week-  is happening today through to July 15.

Don’t miss the 5th Annual Foodie Festival (1515 Albion Rd.) tomorrow.

Burgermania takes over Ontario Place this weekend.

Food and drinks are $5 each at Saturday’s Junction Night Market.

Restaurants Canada and Centennial College have spent more than a year in partnership to develop a guide to help foodservice employers foster a better and more respectful work environment.

Our fair city placed eighth on the “Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Cities list compiled by Plant Based News.
