Open/Closed: week of June 29 – July 5, 2017

It’s the long weekend, the LCBO isn’t striking (at least for now), and you’ve got 10 new spots to discover. Let the celebrations begin!

Here’s the very latest:

OPENINGS

Guild Inn Estate (201 Guildwood Pkwy), a mansion built in 1914, has been renovated and restored into a new banquet and event center. In addition to Bridal Suites, there’s a lengthy patio, and ballroom with capacity for 1,000 dinner guests.

Located in the recently renovated Guild Inn Estate, Bickford Bistro (201 Guildwood Pkwy) offers lunch and dinner in quaint surroundings. Lunch items such as Croque Monsieur ($16.99) and Beef Dip ($14.99) are served with a side of kettle chips. Dinner selections range from Eggplant Parmiagana ($15.99) to Beef Wellington ($35.99).

Dig into Housemade Patties ($2 ea.), Pepper Shrimp ($12), Jerk Chicken ($13) and Oxtail ($18) at Leslieville’s newest arrival, Caribbean Sunset Restaurant And Bar (753A Queen St. E.).

Cookie dough took the States by storm, so it’s no surprise we want our fill too. To get in on the craze, head to Dough T.O. (206 Augusta Ave.). The pop-up debuted on Saturday and is likely to sell out, so get there early.

Uncle Tetsu’s HCafe (4750 Yonge St, #119) may not be open yet, but you can get a sneak peek today from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. On the menu: daifuku fruit mochi, ice cream mochi, ice cream and madeleines. Let the frenzy begin.

The lush interior of Mulberry Bar (828 Bloor St. W.) at Bloor and Shaw is reason enough to visit.

Panino Cowboy (238 Queen St. W.) is adamant that paninos (buns, never sliced bread, are stuffed with meat or veg and cheese, then grilled.) are not sandwiches. Whatever you call them, signatures include The Cowboy ($10) with breaded, baked steak, tomato sauce, giardiniera and housemade mozzarella on a thick bun.

Qualitea (469 Queen St. W.) opened Monday and is serving – get ready for it – fresh brewed teas with handmade cheese. Fresh Strawberry Green Tea with Cheese will set you back $6.30 while Matcha with Cheese is a $5.50. P.S. Toronto is about to get an influx of Asian-style cheese restaurants, so watch this spot.

Vietnamese bun (vermicelli), com (rice platters) and banh mi (sandwiches) are awaiting you at Saigon Hustle (406 Queen St. W.).

The Rec Room (255 Bremner Blvd.) opened Tuesday. Located across from the CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium and Rogers Centre, the new facility features over 40,000 square feet of games of every kind, from video to shuffleboard and two eateries: THREE10 and The Shed.

CLOSINGS

Bestellen (972 College St.) is closing after service on Friday. Owner Chef Rob Rossi has other projects in the works, so stay tuned.

Long-running café, Rosie's Kitchen (1549 Bayview Ave.) closed Monday. Frank and Nora, proprietors since 2004, are retiring.

Fairmont Royal York’s York Station (100 Front St. W.) is closing tomorrow, as Alina Budzinski retires after 42 years behind the bar.

This is the last weekend for The Saucy Pierogi (1282 Dundas St. W.).
