Open/Closed: week of April 13-19, 2017

The hits just keep on coming with the arrival of 10 openings this week.

How many will you try over the long weekend?

Here’s the very latest:

OPENINGS

Chef Adrian Forte presents his contemporary take on classic Caribbean dishes at AF1 Caribbean Canteen (596 College St. ) in Little Italy. Menu items include Fish Fritters, Curry Goat, Oxtail, Jerk Pork, and Mac Pie.

Birch Bistro (623 Mt Pleasant Rd.) debuts tonight for dinner at 5 pm.

Kickstarter eatery The Butternut Baking Co. (2743 Dundas St. W.) features 100 per cent gluten-free, grain-free, naturally low-carb baked goods sweetened without cane sugar. The bakery is over halfway to reaching its goal of raising $16,500. Grand opening is Saturday 11 am-5 pm.

Café De Paris (201 Dundas St. W.) brings their signature towering fruit cups called “Bon Bons” to the downtown core.

Order sushi via iPad at new K&B Sushi (6400 Millcreek, Unit 1) in Mississauga. There’s also a ton of Korean, Chinese and Thai dishes to delve into.

Mexitaco made the corner of Bloor and Shaw home for 15 years. They’ve relocated to 1109 Victoria Park Ave. at St. Clair and added Tequila Bar & Grill to their name.

Nemo’s Butcher Shop (1060 Gerrard St. E.) has also found a new home, this time on the east side. All meat is free-range, antibiotic- and hormone-free. Prepared meals are also on hand.

From Philly Cheese Steaks to Falafel on the Rocks, Osmow’s Grill (351 College St.) has got your Mediterranean cravings covered.

Taiwanese bubble teashop Presto Tea (189 Dundas St. W.)  has arrived on Dundas. But don’t think they’re just all about tea – they’ve got BubblEspresso too.

Mississauga’s new Reggae Fusion (3115 Winston Churchill Blvd.) features Jamaican Style Breakfast ($8.50-$9) with your choice of boiled ground provision or fried dumplings, lunch specials for just $5.99, and meals including Brown Stew Chicken (sm $8, lg $9.50), Cow Foot (sm $8, lg $10) and Jerk Chicken Pasta ($11.50).

CLOSINGS

The Baro Chopped Salad Shoppe (424 Queen St. W.) is papered up.

Bibo Sushi (169 Queen St. E.) has shuttered.

Ossington’s rapid turnover continues with the latest closure, LAS (229 Ossington Ave.).

Sunday was the last day for Pizza Thick’s eastside location (1026 Queen St. E.), but you can still visit them on the west side inside Death In Venice (536 Queen St. W.).

The windows are covered at Queen and Richmond’s The Tavern by Trevor (147 Spadina Ave.).

Sfizio Pizzeria & Wine Bar (401 Bloor St. E.) has closed.

Scarborough’s Vi Pei Bistro (3101 Kingston Rd.) is no more.

NEWS

It was announced this week that Buca will open its first 905 location in Vaughan’s Transit City Condos.

And this fall, Yorkdale will be home to the first Canadian location of The Cheesecake Factory.
