Open/Closed: week of November 2-8, 2017

With 16 new openings this week, November’s not looking so bad after all.

Here’s the very latest:

OPENINGS

Just in time for winter, Borrel’s (1333 Danforth Ave.) serving up traditional Dutch snacks and comfort food, Wednesday to Sunday nights.

Taiwanese teashop Green Grotto (832 Bay St.) has landed in the downtown core.

Toronto doesn’t really do AYCE (all you can eat). It’s usually a suburbs thing. But that’s quickly changing. Case in point: Japanese BBQ joint Gyubee (335 Bloor St. W.), the second location for the Markham resto.

You can preview the new IQ Food (613 King St. W.) this Saturday at King and Portland – RSVPrequired.

Satiate your sweet tooth while shopping at Le Dolci in Scarborough Town Centre (300 Borough Dr.).

The first Canadian location of Mandilicious (5120 Dixie Rd., Unit 5104) has launched, offering “a genuine taste of the ‘Cuisine of Arabia.’”

Baldwin’s village latest Asian restaurant, Omai Restaurant (3 Baldwin St.), specializes in temaki (sushi hand rolls) and sake.

It’s been a minute, but a Greek restaurant – Original Gyro Grill – opened in Greektown (547 Danforth Ave.).

On the menu at Padella Italian Eatery (1967 Avenue Rd.): insalate, antipasti, pizza, pasta, secondi and dessert.

Get your jerk chicken/pork/shrimp, curry goat and fried chicken on at Roywoods Jerk Chicken(198 Ossington Ave.).

North York’s hot pot restaurant Sichuan Ren has debuted in Chinatown (460 Dundas St. W.). Their slogan? “A taste you will never forget. Literally.”

In the Financial District and in need a portable meal? Grab a sushi burrito at Su & Bu in the Bay Adelaide Centre (333 Bay St.).

Supermoon Cheesecakes (19 -128 Queen St. S.) is softly opening in Mississauga on Monday.

Also in Mississauga, Trish Juice (2430 Lucknow Dr., Unit 19) will help keep you healthy this winter with freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, and fruit and veg salads. Also available: bubble tea, milkshakes and coffee.

Head to Village Juicery’s newest location in the west wing of Yorkdale (3401 Dufferin St.) on Wednesday (10 am to 9 pm) for free juice, snacks and customized wellness tonics from the tonic bar. Be the first to try Village Juicery’s new menu items, including warming soups, all created by holistic-nutritionists. The first 100 guests will take home a Village Juicery swag bag packed with signature goodies and gifts from other wellness brands.

Pizzeria 850 Degrees opened a second location at Dundas West and Bloor (1566 Bloor St. W.).

CLOSINGS

After nine years, Leslieville’s Belmonte Raw (1022 Queen St. E.) has closed.

HoSu Bistro (254 Queen St. W.) has shuttered.

NEWS

Reserve your table this Tuesday and Wednesday night at June’s HIV+ Eatery (1090 Queen St. W.). Hosted by Casey House, Chef Matt Basile of Fidel Gastro’s and his team of HIV-positive cooks will be making a sumptuous meal at the first-ever HIV-positive eatery. The goal: breaking down the stigmas surrounding HIV/AIDS.

King Street Food Company announced two new Buca locations opening in 2018 this week:

  1. An expanded Bar Buca at Yonge and Eglinton in spring
  2. A “brand new restaurant and Buca concept” on the north-west corner of the Yonge and St. Clair intersection, opening fall 2018.
