Mi’Hito Sushi Laboratory – Sushi Burritos and Beyond

Mi’Hito Sushi Laboratory owner Matthew Lam says, “We were the first one to offer sushi burritos in Mississauga, before there was a food truck.”

Launched in Mississauga in 2016, the restaurant has since expanded to four locations in a single year: College and SpadinaYonge and Dundas, and newly opened at Yorkville Village, smack dab in the middle of Toronto’s tony neighbourhood.

An array of options

Owner of seven locations of Spoon & Fork, as well as Corner by Spoon and ForkJJ Japanese Thai, and Prince Japanese Steakhouse, Lam has 20 years of experience serving Japanese food, and he wasn’t interested in going the fusion route, as other sushi burrito eateries have. “We try to stay with the identity of the true cuisine.”

In addition to sushi burritos ($9.99-$13.99) featuring tuna, salmon, lobster, chicken, beef, smoked duck, unagi and vegetables, there’s also an array of ahi poké bowls ($10.99-$12.99), sushi tacos ($3.50-$5), as well as build-your-own options. Sushi combos ($7.95-$13.50) are also available for pre-order or pickup at the Mississauga location only.

No extra charge

With all of Lam’s restaurants, “quality and consistency are important,” as is having variety of options to choose from, hence the build-your-own bowls, and large number of fresh toppings and savoury sauces also on offer.

Just some of the factors that make Mi’Hito stand out from the crowd:

  1. Here, lobster’s the real deal – no fake flakes for you.
  2. Go ahead and order half salad/half rice for your poké bowl without any eye rolls or added fees. It’s actually one of the options.
  3. You won’t be charged extra for guac. Seriously.
  4. While other sushi burrito places may offer poké bowls as well, they probably don’t have sushi tacos – one of the best bangs for your buck in the city ($3.50-$5). Delicious too.
