The Reveal - b. good

The Gist: Known in the States for mainly their healthy burgers, this chain recently moved north of the border with a bevy of healthy options including kale and quinoa bowls, sandwiches, salads, sides, smoothies and shakes, all made with local producer's products. Farmers and producers are celebrated throughout the space with photos and information covering the walls.

The idea is to "promote local foods and farmers and to have transparency of ingredients," Todd Brooks, President, b. good Canada says. He has been crossing the border since 2013 working on this project.

Grub: Their motto is "Real. Food. Fast." Their local producers include seasonal produce from Barrie Hill Farms in Barrie, potatoes from Gwillimdale Farms in Bradford, beef from Enright Cattle Company in Tweed, Bright Cheese & Butter’s cheddar cheese from Bright, Ontario, and Toronto’s own Silverstein bread and Greg’s Ice Cream.

There are nice touches like the hand-cut fries are finished in the oven. And the crisp veggie side boats sautéed broccolini, kale, zucchini, carrots, and shiitakes - that should get you out of your midday slump!

And items are naturally changed up throughout the seasons.

Libations:  In additions to their insanely healthy smoothies (Kale Crush is their signature, with the newest addition of Carrot Cake made with carrot, orange, turmeric, banana, coconut milk, lemon and cinnamon), a fun array of housemadelemonades (strawberry, rosemary and beet-ginger) as well as unsweetened lemon iced tea re available, as well Maine Root Fair Trade Certified organically sweetened sodas and milkshakes made with local ice cream.

'Hood: St. Lawrence Market

Deets: The 1,300 sq. ft. space is located right across the street from the St. Lawrence Market, so perhaps after your healthy meal, you’ll be inspired to pick up some fresh produce and local meats on your way home.

Fixtures & Fittings: Not only are there maps of where the farms of the producers are on the whole and big blown up photos of them, there are headshots of them at your table. So enjoy your meal next to Greg and John.

Off the Menu:

Kale Crush Smoothie (473 ml) made from fresh kale, apple, pineapple, banana & pineapple juice is a fantastic energizer on its own.

The Spicy Avocado and Lime Kale & Quinoa Bowl (organic quinoa, kale, sautéed veggies, shiitakes, avocado, black beans, corn, grape tomato, queso fresco, lime, cilantro, chipotle sauce) is packed with flavor. And it’s such a large portion, you’ll no doubt take some home for later.

The Cousin Oliver Burger with all-natural, local, grass-fed & house-ground lettuce, tomato, onions, Chef Tony’s homemade pickles is simple and lets the meat shine.

How Cool is This?! b. good Canada is a part of the amazing Feast ON program. And more locations are on the way – one on Queen West and another in Oakville.
