Open/Closed for the week of March 16-22

What a week - St. Patrick's Day, March Break, Macaron Day, Nutrition Month... There is so much to celebrate. And there's some sad news as well.

But one's things for certain - you've got your pick of great food and events this weekend!

Open:

Eggies Bistro
467 Danforth Ave.

A breakfast-centric spot opens on the Danforth.

Eurobite
582 Parliament St.

Eastern European food is certainly getting a lot of attention in our ciy, but what you should know about this new spot is their schnitzel sandwiches, savoury pies and crepes, are made via boiling and baking instead of the usual method of deep-frying.

La Carnita
780 Queen St. E.

La Carnita's second spot landed in the east end on Monday, giving Lower-Riverdale, Riverside and Leslieville residents a chance to finally load up on tacos.

Peter Pan Bistro
373 Queen St. W.

Peter Pan Bistro opened their doors to the public on Tuesday. Check out our Instagram and Twitter for a sneak peek. And I'll have a closer look for you soon.

Tosto Quickfire Pizza Pasta
800 Bay St.

If you have been thinking that your order of pizza/pasta was taking too long, Tosto Quickfire Pizza Pasta at Bay near College is for you.  Select from hand-crafted Romano pizzas, fresh made pastas, salads, sandwiches, snacks,as well as beer and wine.

p.s. The new Marky & Sparky's called Marky's BBQ Smokehouse was set to open this week. Now we're looking at a late April arrival. Stay tuned. And Fat City Blues doesn't open until next week but we're getting a sneak peek. Check out our Instagram and Twitter for a look this weekend!

Whether it's after a show, shopping or bar-hopping along the strip, your street meat just got gourmet - the third location opens today at noon at Queen and Spadina.

North of Brooklyn
1181 Dundas St. W.

North of Brooklyn brings their iconic slices, pies and garlic knots to their third spot at Dundas and Ossington.

Closed:

Pi-Tom's Thai Cusine has closed after 11 years. The owners thank their customers for their patronage.

The Swan closed its doors this past weekend, along with This End Up.

News:

Pamela Cuthbert passed away earlier this week, with the funeral on Tuesday. A journalist and author, Pamela's columns on food issues were widely published. She founded the Toronto chapter of Slow Food and was honoured with The Ontario Hostelry Institute Fellow Award.    

Big congratulations toChef Tony Fernandes who has been named Central Region Chef of the Year for 2015! The prestigious title is awarded to just three Canadian chefs each year (one in Eastern Canada, one in Central Canada and one in Western Canada).  Chef Fernandes is the Group Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Director for Crowne Plaza Toronto Airport, Four Points by Sheraton Toronto Airport and Hilton Garden Inn Toronto Mississauga, has been recognizedby the Canadian Culinary Federation of Chefs and Cooks (CCFCC) and its regional chapter, the Escoffier Society of Toronto.

A new menu started this week at The Emmet Ray featuring Broccolini Fries ($7) with creamy cheddar dip, Garlic Cheese Bread ($9) made on garlic naan and served with mariana dip, and Nachos ($14).

Patois extends their brunch starting this Sunday so enjoy dishes such as Fried Chicken with HK Egg Waffles all day until 5pm.

And The Royal York Hotel recently launched a new cocktail - Walter's Royal Caesar - made with Walter's all-natural Ocean Wise-approved Caesar mix.

Tomorrow is Macaron DayFinally an excuse to load up on the beloved French pastry.

On Saturday, start your spring cleaning with a trip The Kitchen Library for their cookbook swap.

On Sunday, we'll be at Curry Fest. See you there!
