Open/Closed for week of July 21 – 27
Okay, so July’s almost over, but don’t panic. There’s still time to do all that you want to. And I’ve got some great choices to add to your list.
Now you’re set.
Open:
Little Sister Indonesian Food Bar
2031 Yonge St.
Little Sister had its official opening on Wednesday, so now you can finally dig into authentic Indonesian food with modern Dutch/Indo flavours (doesn’t that make sushi sound like such a bore?).
Owned by Quince folks Chef Michael van den Winkel and Jennifer Gittins, expect this to do gangbusters.
Goldstar Cafe
2111 Yonge St.
Goldstar Café is modeled after the "unique boutique hotel lobby lifestyle" from Shanghai, China.
Enjoy organic and fair trade coffees, tea, nonfat smoothies, and lunch and dinner boxes while you browse tech items, available for purchase.
Maybe there’s something to this hotel lobby lifestyle…
Tinto Bar de Tapas
1581 Bayview Ave.
Spanish tapas is all the rage again, so Otta Zapotocky - proprietor of L'Avenue on Bayview - is wise to open this right across the street from his current place. Choose from hot and cold tapas, as well as larger sharing platters and a bevvy of choice wines.
Bayview just got a little more happening.
Local Public Eatery
171 East Liberty St.
The first Toronto location of this west-coast brand opens in Liberty Village (in Origin’s old spot) tomorrow at 3pm. A place designed to "eat, drink, and hang out," seems like a good fit for the area.
The menu offers something for everyone: hand-pressed burgers with buns baked in-house, salads and many Mexican selections, including Huevos Rancheros with free-range eggs.
And should you feel like your cocktail glassware has been lackluster lately, you’ll be pleased that all signature cocktails are served in a boot.
Chill Ice House
82 Bathurst St.
Chill Ice House had it’s big grand opening last night. What is it, you ask? It’s part bar, part experience. And incredibly cool, in all sense of the word.
I’ll have the whole story for you early next week, complete with an inside look at what it’s like to be in a room made of ice!
New additions:
Four Restaurant has a new cocktail list, including the Patio Sangria (made with red wine), a Strawberry Mojito and Bitter Peach Negroni.
Sparrow, one of the best new restaurants in the city, launched a new menu on Monday that features delights such as Atlantic Salmon Rillettes, Popcorn Veal Sweetbreads, Fried Zucchini Blossoms, Rabbit Ravioli and Fried Chicken. Don’t miss out.
Chef Mark Cutrara has joined Caplansky’s. Read the deets via Zane’s blog.
There's still time:
The "Love Our Pizza or It's Free!" Challenge continues at Bar Mercurio until August 9th.
Happenings around town:
Taste of Toronto is the “world’s greatest restaurant festival” and it’s happening here this weekend. Check out our photo of Chef David Chang from his talk last night. The festival runs until Sunday.
Toronto’s Festival of Beer starts tonight and we’ll have live coverage throughout the weekend for you (be sure to follow us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for all the latest news, if you aren’t already)!
T&T Supermarket’s 5th anniversary comes way of a Waterfront Night Market this weekend. Nom, nom, nom.
p.s. Check out our guide and best of to find out where to patio it up and don’t forget to vote for your favourite restaurants in the city.
