Open/Closed for the week of Oct 20-26

It has been a truly exciting and inspiring week here in the city.

Last week’s announcements of Alain Ducasse’s partnership with George Brown Culinary Program, and Food & Wine Magazine being the official media partner of Toronto Food & Wine , were pretty heady.

So to receive news this week that Toronto made into the top ten of Lonely Planet’s best cities to visit in 2015, thanks to features including our "drool-worthy restaurant scene," is buttercream icing on the cake.

Mmm, cake. Speaking of cake, let’s get to this week’s openings, closings and events. There’s so much to see, do, and thankfully eat.

Open:

Caffè Artigiano
101-67 Yonge St.

Get your caffeine fix right at King and Yonge at this new coffee spot from the west coast.

Campo Restaurant
244 Jane St.

This Italian-Spanish restaurant has a simple menu of classic dishes that are such to draw the crowd well outside the neighbourhood.

Coco Lezzone
137 Avenue Rd.

In case you didn’t hear of the move, Coco Lezzone, a long-standing Little Italy landmark is now in Yorkville, with a new stone pizza oven and their roster of pastas, risottos and entrées.

Goat Coffee Co.
893 Pape Ave.

East York, just north of the Danforth is becoming quite the spot for new restaurants and cafes. This latest edition serves up not just espresso-based drinks, but offers real food, not just coffee house muffins, etc. When is the last time you were able to go get an espresso and also order grass-fed burger sliders with garlic aoli, heirloom tomatoes & organic spring mix on a buttery brioche?

Let’s hope this kind of thinking catches on.

Little Fin
4 Temperance St.

Little Fin debuted to the public on Tuesday. Located next to the The Chase Fish & Oyster and beneath The Chase on the top floor, this sweet seafood spot offers everything from smoked crab rolls, lobster dinners and fish and chips via dine-in, takeout and delivery. Downtown just got a little more exciting.

Schmaltz Appetizing Store
414 Dupont St.

Because the lineups at Anthony Rose's Fat Pasha can be long, take comfort in his new store out back where you can satiate your craving with items such as cream cheese, smoked fish and bagels.

The Greek Boy
942 Pape Ave.

And while you are checking out the new activity in East York (see Goat Coffee above) and craving Greek food north of the Danforth, The Greek Boy has got you covered. I’ll have a closer look for you next week.

Closed:

Waterfalls Indian Tapas in Kensington closed. The humungous space opens up a lot of possibilities for the food-centric market. Stay tuned…

Making room for some lucky restaurant on Dundas West, S. Lefkowitz closed. Should you be looking for hummus, don't worry - Essen, also on Dundas West, has got you covered.

Announcements:

Congratulations to The Boulevard Café, celebrating its 35-year anniversary this month.

Michael’s on Simcoe is offering hockey fans something fun - for the hockey season, they’re offering complimentary valet parking and shuttle service to the ACC. Go Leafs!

A new restaurant by Mercatto is opening this winter called Taverna Mercatto, not far from Steam Whistle and the ACC. I’ll have an inside look to you soon.
